Santa paws is coming to town!

With the countdown to Christmas well underway there are plenty of things to think about and look forward to, but spare a thought for your furry friends this Christmastime. The Animals Team have come up with some useful pieces of advice to keep your pets happy amidst the festivities: Animals are not good Christmas presents - if you choose to give a pet as a gift, wait until January to bring them home and allow them to settle in in a quiet environment. It’s better if the recipient is fully involved in choosing the animal as they will be responsible for it for many years to come.
There are lots of pet hazards around at Christmas - including decorations, food and presents. Keep your pets out of danger by watching them and keeping food out of reach. Christmastime can be stressful for all pets so try to keep them relaxed and create a quiet area for them to get away from the hustle and bustle.
Remember: Dogs and children must NEVER be left alone together.
If you have a dog, do ensure that its tag and microchip are correct in case
it should escape.
Consider the risk of fireworks to all animals whether inside like dogs and cats or outside such as those in hutches or horses etc.
Have a safe and happy Christmas. If you would like any advice on getting a new pet or caring for your existing one you can speak to the Animals Team or email us at: dogwarden@swindon.gov.uk
